Pornography finds home at motor parks

There is no dull moment at Obalende Motor Park. Almost every time of the day, there is a beehive of activities at the park.

Voices from rickety loud speakers mounted on commercial buses alternate between lewd music and frenetic calls for passengers. But the first gains go to roving petty traders who hawk chilled soft drinks and other edibles they sell to commuters.

Near the bus terminus are more established ‘ad hoc’ activities. This sub-sector is replete with cobblers, ‘vulcanisers’, food and compact disc vendors and others who contribute, in no small measure, to the economy of the park. They make less fuss about their wares yet they command the attention of passengers and commuters.
Last Friday was no exception. By noon, two young men dealing in compact disc sales had set up wares and were already attending to customers. With the rippling muscles and six packs of boxers on the jackets of some of the discs, the setting seemed normal at first. But a closer look revealed differently. Nude women and men posing in different erotic postures were on the jackets of many of the compact discs. It was obvious that the majority of his products displayed so openly are pornographic.

Our correspondent who had watched the men from inside a commercial vehicle alighted to get a copy. Sitting by the side of the stall was an old man printing tickets to people who seemed oblivious to the ‘wares’ displayed beside them. While some passengers streaming into the terminus stared openly, others abruptly averted their gaze, refusing to make further eye contact with the materials.

Pointing to one of the CD, the journalist haggled with him over the cost and   probed him on the appropriateness of his business. The products cost a token N150 each.

“Make u dey hide dis thing nah. If task force catch u, na wahala be that’, she started.
“Which task force? Na before bi dat o. Once you settle, you are okay,’ he said.
“Dem dey collect money? Dis country don spoil’’
“Before nko? Dem no get their price?

Later, our correspondent made a detour out of the terminus to the other side, where she met one of the unit officials of the National Union of Road Transport Union. Behind her, business activities continued, not missing a beat. Efforts to speak with the chairman of the unit were not successful as it was learnt that he and other key officials had gone to Onikan Stadium for the declaration of a governorship aspirant, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode.

However, findings by our correspondent showed that sales of pornographic materials are a norm in many motor parks in the state. From the popular Okokomaiko park, Agege motor park to those in Iyana-ipaja and some others, sales and display of pornographic materials unfold with varying degrees. While some hide the materials, others care less, flaunting erotic pictures on posters.

While the state’s new traffic law does not overtly address issues of pornographic and decency in motor parks, a human rights lawyer, Mr. Fred Agbaje, told our correspondent that Governor Babtunde Fashola in 2010 signed an executive order proscribing the sales, broadcast and display of pornographic materials in open places, including motor parks. In addition, he pointed to sections 149 and 150 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State which prohibits the publication of obscene matters and performance of obscene plays.

“The government has provided the law to regulate such morally offensive activities in our parks and bus stops, it is now left for the police to ensure that violators are arrested and prosecuted before the appropriate courts.

“But if the police choose to look the other way, you can’t blame Fashola. You can’t blame the chief judge. But the environmental taskforce who are busy arresting people who indiscriminately cross the road at Ojota should also keep the society free of this morally-provocative business. If we don’t care about our own moral as adults, shouldn’t we care about the moral upbringing of our children? This is why the government must not stop at merely criminalising such things at parks, it should go further and see to it that the laws are implemented and offenders punished,’’ he said.

According to the Faculty Director, Soar and Heritage, Mr. Sola Adeyiga, location still plays a role in the viability of any business venture. He said this business tenet was understood by many players no matter the legal status of their trade.

Adeyiga added that the primary business of bus terminuses make them attractive to petty traders who may not be able to pay exorbitant fees for lock-up shops in the metropolis. He however, noted that this was not an excuse for government agencies to allow illegality.

Efforts by our correspondent to reach the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, on Monday were not successful as he neither picked his calls nor responded to a text message sent to him.

However, in a telephone interview on Monday, the Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos State chapter, Dr. Matthew Oloko, said he was not aware of such activity at motor parks.

“I don’t know anything about sales of pornographic materials at the parks. This is the first time I will hear such a thing and it has not been reported by any of our unit chairmen,” he said.

NYSC Members To Receive N500 Daily As Feeding Allowance

The federal government has allocated N500 as daily feeding allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This was disclosed yesterday by the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Johnson Bamidele Olawumi. He made the disclosure at a House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition investigative public hearing on the N4,000 online registration fee imposed on prospective corps members by the corps. A civil society coalition: ‘Say No Campaign’ had dragged the NYSC before the Uzor Azubike-led House committee in protest against the contentious fees. While responding to the petition, Brigadier Olawumi, who alluded to the poor welfare of the corp members, disclosed that the federal government approved N500 as feeding allowance for each corp member per day.

He also disclosed that over N800 million was required to setup the computer registration system the NYSC is presently using for its online registration. He explained that the fees will service a private sector driven build, operate and transfer agreement. He said the registration equipment will be installed at NYSC offices nationwide. He said the process was approved by the Bureau of Public Procurement with a certificate of no objection. While noting that the N4,000 for the online registration is voluntary, he said rather than request for money to install the infrastructure, he would prefer to canvass for increment of the current N19,800 allowance being to prospective Corp member.

Is this a coming back? D'Banj to work with Don Jazzy on his new Album

Don Jazzy worked with me from the beginning, and I can tell you for sure that my 10th anniversary album will drop soon, and there are many producers on it including Don Jazzy.”

This was what the ‘Kiniwun Funfun’ himself D’banj, revealed during an interview on his upcoming tenth year anniversary album with urban music station, Beat 99.9 FM. After their highly publicized and much talked about split in 2012, it seems that fans of these two top-notch entertainers will get their wish of a come-back or at the very least collaboration between the former partners

"We Are Coming For Our End Of The Year Package And Nobody Stop Us!"-Robbers Write Residents In Lagos

In what is fast becoming a trend by daredevil robbers in the country, residents of Onimaba, College Bus stop, Ikotun Road, Igando, have received a letter informing them of an impending visit from the men of the underworld.
Since receiving the letter circulated around streets in the area last week Thursday, the residents have been living in fear.
According to Punch, the letter which was typed on an A4 paper and scattered on the streets, was noticed by residents as they woke up on Thursday morning.
About 20 copies of the letter were said to have been picked up from streets such as Lateef Bello, Ogunbewon, Taiwo Adediran, and Alhaji Hamzat.
Our correspondent learnt that the people called the attention of landlords to the document, and the landlords association was said to have reported at the Igando Police Division.

In a copy of the letter obtained by reporters, the robbers wrote that residents should be prepared to ‘entertain’ them as they were coming for their end-of-the-year packages. The robbers added that they could strike the area at any time they deemed fit.

The letter reads,
“Be prepared, be prepared, be prepared. Our dues must be paid this festive season. Nobody can stop us as we can strike at any time. Only enough money can save your life.
“To be forewarned is to be fore-harmed. We have warned you in this area, and if you have ears, you ought to hear.”

Although the residents insist they have reported the matter to the Police, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, denied knowledge of the said letter. He added that the public should always avail the police of relevant information to enable them ensure security of lives and property.

He said,
“The incident has not been reported to the Igando Police Division. However, if the residents have received such letter, let them bring it to the police. If there is such information, we will do well to ensure we deploy enough personnel in the area. The responsibility of the police is to ensure safety of lives and property in the state.”

Just In: President Jonathan Finally Declares He Is Running For Presidency In The 2015 Elections

President Goodluck Jonathan today 27 October has openly declared that he will be contesting in the 2015 presidential election.

Reports say he made the move in Aso Rock, the seat of the presidency, by telling top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he is set for the 2015 presidential race.

He also announced a presidential declaration committee, headed by former Minister of Defence Haliru Bello, to prepare for his formal declaration, which will take place in two weeks.

It will be recalled that the PDP adopted Mr. Jonathan as its candidate, sidestepping the procedure of primaries that it feared would split the party and weaken Mr. Jonathan in the real contest next February.

AGAIN??? Boko Haram Abducts 60 Women And Young Girls in Adamawa

Members of the dreaded terrorist sect Bokoharam have abducted Sixty women were reportedly  at Waga Mangoro and Garta villages, both in troubled Adamawa State during a fresh attack.

Forty of the women were said to have been abducted in Waga Mangoro and the other 20 were forcefully taken away from Grata.

Some of the fleeing residents from the area, who called journalists in Yola on the telephone lamented that scores of insurgents riding motorcycles and driving vans had invaded their towns.

The fleeing residents while lamenting the capture of the two towns, said they were able to sneak out of the captured towns on Tuesday, but disclosed that their villages were ravaged on Saturday.

One of those that was about to flee the area, Tizhe Kwada told journalists that the area had been under the control of the insurgents for about two months now.

He said that though one of the attacked towns, Garta had been under what could be termed as the control of the insurgents for sometimes now, but that did not stop them from overrunning it and carting away the young women.

Kwada claimed that the insurgents cordon off the entire town and went from one house to another in Garta in search of young women who they took in their vans to an unknown destination.

He said, “The insurgents are still in the area. And they have slaughtered many men in Garta and abducted many young women. We also heard from residents of Wagga that they killed two men and took 40 women away from there.”

A community leader from Michika, a neighbouring town to the two attacked towns, Emmanuel Kwache, while confirming the incident to journalists in Yola on Wednesday said, “I got the information from villagers in the area that the rampage was still in progress.”

But when he was contacted, the Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, James Watharda, said “I had all along been in Yola since the insurgents took over the area and as such I can speak little of happening in the area.”

As of the time of filing the story, both the military and security agencies could not be reached for confirmation.

It is now more than obvious that the supposed 'cease fire' is a SHAM like journalists Ahmad Salkida and Shehu Sani suggested. God help Nigeria.

How Ex Ekiti Governor Fayemi And Wife Slept On N50 Million Beds In Lavish N3.3 Billion New Govt House(Photos)

Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Ayodele Fayose on Public Communications and New Media, Mr Lere Olayinka has described the new government house built by the immediate past government of Dr Kayode Fayemi as an act of insensitivity to the plight of Ekiti people, many of whom cannot afford to feed once in a day.

Speaking with pressmen in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, Olayinka said no progressive minded Ekiti person would see the out-of-this-world luxury provided with over N3.3bn borrowed fund for Fayemi, his wife and children and will not weep for the State and its people.

Olayinka, who said Governor Fayose was alarmed at the waste of Ekiti resources to provide comfort for a single family out of the thousands of households in the State, added that; “the governor would have preferred to sell out the property and use the fund to provide basic amenities and employment opportunities for the people.

He disclosed that Fayemi was planning to buy a helicopter if he had returned to office for a second term, adding that;

“the plan was for Fayemi to run government from  the comfort of Oke-Ayoba Government House and move from there to anywhere he wanted without the people seeing him. That’s also the reason he (Fayemi) refused to renovate the Governor’s Office, leaving it in a state of disrepair because he knew that he was not going to use the office during his second term.”
"Also, contract for the maintenance of the property was already awarded for N150m per annum.
“When we visited the Government House for the first time yesterday, Mr Governor was like; how I wish I can sell off this place or turn it to commercial use? It is simply wicked for a governor to be more interested in this manner of ostentatious comfort at the expense of the people.”
Speaking further, the governor’s aide said; “The bed on which Fayemi slept before he left government alone costs over N30 million! That of his wife costs over N20 million!
“Between Fayemi and his wife, what was spent on their bedrooms, toilets and bathrooms will be in the region of N100 million.
“How can a responsible government use borrowed fund to provide this kind of luxury for the governor and his family alone in a State where a lot of people cannot afford to feed once in a day?
“People should ask the outgone governor what was really wrong with the abandoned governor’s lodge used by his (Fayemi) predecessors?
“Shouldn’t such funds expended on the hilltop edifice have been used to resuscitate the moribund Textile Factory in Ado-Ekiti that was turned to lock-up shops to provide employments for our teeming unemployed youths?
“Also, was Fayemi living in that manner of opulence before he became governor? Was he sleeping on a body-massaging bed and bathing in an electric controlled Jacuzzi?
“Here is Fayemi, who could not pay workers salary, owing them two months’ salary before he left. A Fayemi, who out of sheer wickedness refused to pay pensioners N2.4bn pension and gratuities, N400m workers leave bonus, N700m subventions to parastatals and tertiary institutions and remit N2.4bn four months cooperative society’s deductions from workers salary, preferring to use over N3bn borrowed fund to provide luxury for himself, his wife and children alone.
“This is wickedness!
“Most importantly, did our late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whom Fayemi and his so-called progressives claim as their role-model live in any government house, not to talk of building an Emperor-like House for himself? Did late Michael Adekunle Ajasin build a monarchical government house for himself? Did Baba Lateef Jakande live in any government house? These are great Yoruba sons, whose recorded landmark achievements as Premier of the old Western Region and governors of Lagos State and the old Ondo State respectively.   The duo of Ajasin and Jakande were able to impact tremendously on their States because they would not like to waste public fund to provide luxury for themselves.
While reiterating Governor Fayose’s avowed commitment to the masses, Olayinka said; “Left for Governor Fayose, he won’t use that aristocratic government house because it is a symbol of oppression in itself. He will prefer to live where Ekiti people can easily see him, touch him, eat with him and discuss the progress of the State together. “But abandoning it would amount to colossal waste of public funds, let me assure you Governor Fayose will not hide himself from the masses” Olayinka declared.

Fayose's aide blasts Ekiti Speaker over closure of filling station, says "He has no right to own private business"

Olayinka, in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, said; "as against the falsehood being spread by the Speaker and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Speaker's Petrol Station, alongside three others were sealed up for contravening environmental laws."

The governor's aide listed the four filling stations affected by the government action to include; INIS Integrated Services located along Iworoko Road, Ado-Ekiti; belonging Hon Churchill Adedipe, NIPCO Petrol Station (Morolu Global Services), Isato-Oke in Ado-Ekiti (belonging to Mr Oloko), T5 Petrol Station, Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti (owned by Dr Adewale Omirin) and PHENROSE Limited, Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti (owned by Mr Gilbert Igweka).

Olayinka, who advised the Speaker to thread softly so as to prevent himself from being pushed into perdition, added that; "Code 2 (b) of the Code of Conduct Act prohibits public office holders like the Speaker from participating in management or running of any private business, profession or trade.

"Therefore, those making noise in the media that Dr Omirin owns a filling station are only trying to throw him inside the web of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, and the noisemakers won't be available to help him out of the mess they would have put him."

Speaking further; Olayinka said; for clarity sake; "Four filling stations were sealed-up and one of them belong to an Ibo man. Are they also saying that the Ibo man is a politician and being coerced by the governor?

"Are they also saying that Mr Oloko, the owner of NIPCO Petrol Station (Morolu Global Services) is a member of the APC and a serving member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly?"

He urged leaders of the APC, especially the immediate past governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his godfather, Senator Bola Tinubu to accept their fate and let peace reign in Ekiti State.

Q: Did you say six hundred?

A: Yes 600 + IBB’s agents of destruction are in the Nigeria Army (NA), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Navy, Air Force, Oil and Gas sectors, even in the finance home such as in top level positions of CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria) and other banks. You find them in politics, in the Senate, National Assembly, in the media both print and electronic and even in Aso Rock, Abuja (Nigeria’s capital).

called Boko Haram.
Q: How do you mean by this statement “and even in the finance…”?

A: Yes, I mean every word I say; even the Islamic bank champion was planted by IBB to help in Islamizing Nigeria.

Q: So how can you describe IBB?

A: IBB is a “green snake” in green grass. He is the main problem of Nigeria along with members of the Cabal.

Q: Have you forwarded any of these evidence(s) to Aso Rock or to SSS (State Security Services)?

A: I attempted to do so a few weeks ago and I was arrested and detained for two days because IBB’S men are so many in SSS (State Security Services) as well. After I was released by the grace of God, they (the Police) warned me never to blow up the polity or provoke violence and I should keep my so-called born-again with me or else I will go to jail.

Check this Out: My Encounter With Boko Haram Leaders - Asari Dokubo

Q: So you were a key member and a registered jihadist hardliner.

A: Yes, I was.

Q: Under what group?

A: I was a Boko Haramist. But Boko Haram is just a cover name to give it a name. I have my identity as a founding member of the dreaded jama’aful Ahlul sunna wal Liddawati wal Jihad, aka Boko Haram.

Q: Apart from IBB, who are the other top sponsors of terrorism in this country?

A: They are many, but IBB is the major financier. He introduced the suicide bombing that started when he killed Dele Giwa. I have the names of six traditional rulers and seven present & ex- Governors as well as several top military and security officers who are co-sponsoring the so called Boko Haram.
