‘Genus Corchorus’ Popularly Known As 'Ewedu' Can Prevent, Cure Ebola

Few weeks ago, when the Ebola outbreak was very fresh in the country, I heard a very educated elderly man mention that he knew the cure for Ebola. Out of curiosity, I asked what it was, and he told me 'Ewedu' -a popular vegetable, eaten majorly by the Yoruba people of Nigeria- can cure the deadly EVD.
He went on to explain the preparation, adding that it must first be washed with vinegar before preparation.
Of course I didn't take it seriously, because I wondered how a very cheap, available vegetable could be the cure for Ebola while scientists around the world were struggling to get a reliable cure for the disease. I however kept safely in my brain the dosage and administration, just in case..lol.. I have been eating Ewedu all my life and trying it as it was prescribed wouldn't hurt.
So you can imagine my surprise when today in the news today, A professor of Ophthalmology at the Lagos State Teaching hospital, LUTH, Prof Adebukola Adefule Oshitelu, is quoted to have said that ‘Genus Corchorus’ popularly known as Ewedu in Nigeria is capable of curing the Ebola Virus Disease.

She corroborated what I had earlier heard at the 2014 African Traditional Medicine organised by NAFDAC yesterday at Ikeja, Lagos state.
The programme which was arranged for Traditional Medicine Practitioners and Conventional Medicine Practitioners was in response for an urgent need of cooperation between the two health bodies in order to enhance better and reliable healthcare delivery system.
According to Oshitelu, Ewedu cures Ebola by improving an infected person’s immune system, likewise providing prevention against the deadly virus for uninfected persons.
“The qualities inside Ewedu is so much that it will kill Ebola by preventing the virus from replicating and destroying more organs in the body. This would immediately stop the symptoms such as high fever, stooling and vomiting. Ultimately, leading to the cure,” Oshitelu said.

She further advised people to consume Ewedu on a regular basis but with strict adherence to its preparation and usage.
“The way it will be prepared will be different from the normal way they cook it. It should be washed and rinsed with liquid vinegar, afterwards blend and cook with drinkable water. No salt, potash or seasoning should be added, take 25cl of the concoction a week and it would boost a person’s immunity so that they become impregnable to the virus.”
It should be taken first thing in the morning before any meal” for prevention, adding that those already infected should take it every morning for seven to five days.
She, however, noted that chances of being cured by an intake of Ewedu when a victim has gotten to the stage of vomiting was low, but could still be administered.

I still have my doubts about this Ewedu cure, but then again, vegetable is very nutritious. Taking a lot of it won't hurt I guess.
